The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, or LSST is currently under construction in Chile, and has been given its official name as the NSF Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Vera Rubin was an astronomer who discovered the first clues to dark matter. It’s a good name for a great astronomer. Now that it’s official however, some folks are referring to it as the VRO. It should actually be referred to as Rubin Observatory so that Dr. Rubin’s name and work isn’t minimized. I agree, but I can’t help thinking…
