In July New Horizons will finally make it’s flyby of Pluto. We have made lots of planet flybys over the years so in some ways this is nothing new. But it’s important to keep in mind that this is the latest in a long line of planetary explorations. Each mission we’ve undertaken has been an amazing feat of engineering and scientific discovery. We’ve come a long way to get to Pluto, both in real distance and in technical prowess.

And in many ways New Horizons is just a teaser for even greater missions to come.
